Cultural and Special Diets
As we provide catering services to a multi cultural community we respect and cater for cultural and religious needs where appropriate. LBC Catering Services purchases Halal meat from an approved local supplier and in schools where it is served care is taken with separation in storage, preparation, cooking and service. Parents, guardians and pupils can have sight of the halal certificates on request.
Pupils who are on special diets will also be catered for wherever possible. To do this we do need to have special foods authorised in writing by a hospital dietician or general practitioner.
Additional Catering Services
In certain schools catering services are offerred which are extra to the lunch time meals. These are :-
- breakfast - In a few Secondary and Primary schools we offer a breakfast service, including items such as cereal, toast, fruit juice and beverages, at very reasonable prices.
- morning break service - As we know, many children need a ‘top up’ of food during the day and where there is a morning break service items such as filled rolls and sandwiches, cakes, biscuits, fresh and dried fruit, nuts and ‘healthy’ drinks are available for sale.
- milk sales - In the Primary sector pupils are eligible to buy semi-skimmed one third cartons of milk at a subsidised price, either at mid morning or at lunch time. In some schools the sold milk scheme is run by the school themselves and in others by LBC Catering Services. As from the beginning of the Spring term 2007 the maximum that can be charged per one third carton is 18p.
- free milk - Most Council Nurseries and Infant schools with Nursery units provide a one third carton daily of free milk to pupils under the age of five years. The milk is ordered by the LBC Catering kitchen staff and distributed by the school staff at a suitable time in the day. We supply the administrative input required for the service free of charge, in the interests of benefit to the very young.
