English as an Additional Language (EAL) Learning and Teaching Consultant

Within Luton Local Authority (LA) the EAL Learning and Teaching Consultant works closely with Primary and Secondary Consultants to promote good quality first teaching to enhance the provision in schools for all pupils for whom English is an additional language. The consultant encourages the development of inclusive practice in schools in order to meet the needs of all pupils from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

The EAL Consultant works strategically across all Luton schools tailoring support to address the needs identified by individual establishments.  The EAL Consultant provides CPD both centrally and within schools to highlight good practice.  The CPD provision addresses the needs of EAL learners and reflects the ethnic and cultural diversity within the borough.  Approaches reflecting Luton’s priorities are incorporated within the training and can be jointly delivered with members of other LA school improvement teams.
