Science & Maths Specialist HLTAs

Last year the government launched a special programme to help raise standards in secondary Science and Maths by providing specialist subject training for HLTAs (higher level teaching assistants) working in these departments.  To date, 9 candidates from Luton have participated in this programme and a number of them attended a special regional conference in Cambridge at the end of June.

The day was intended to be a celebration of their achievements and included an inspirational talk by Britain's first female fast jet pilot, Jo Salter.  Also, amongst speakers was our very own Sarah Robinson, an experienced Science HLTA in Luton who was able to showcase some of her excellent work at Challney HIgh School for Boys.  The afternoon was dedicated to specialist maths and science workshops with tips on how to make learning fun, including a few card tricks.!
