- Apply for deferred entry by the normal deadlines. Check that a deferred application is acceptable for your chosen course and make your deferral very clear in your application. The whole application process will need to be completed before you take your year out.
- Apply a year later or when you come back. Make sure you will be available at the appropriate times to complete your application for courses and finance and to attend interviews.
What can you do in your year out?
There are many options available for all, or part, of a year out. Whether you decide to take a paid job in order to save towards your next step or to work voluntarily (for which some expenses may be paid or accommodation provided), you need to plan the time carefully. Organisations promoted by the Year Out Group are carefully vetted and provide annual confirmation that they continue to abide by the code of practice and operating guidelines which are described on their website www.yearoutgroup.org.
Keeping safe:
If you’re thinking of travelling abroad, it is a good idea to do some research into the places you plan to visit. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office produce official travel advice notices for over 200 countries designed to help British travellers to make informed decisions about travelling abroad. Look on their website www.fco.gov.uk.
